The Sims 3 Camping Challenge

The goal is to earn enough Simoleons to build and furnish a three-bedroom home before becoming an adult.

Set lifespan to long.

Only load The Sims 3 base game, World Adventures, and the Movie Stuff pack so you can have the tent and the outhouse. I chose the bare minimum so this challenge doesn't require the entire game and can be played on a potato. You can load Pets if you wish, but you may only have one cat or dog.

Start a new game in the town of your choice. I picked Sunset Valley for my first play-through.

Create a Sim and place them on an empty lot of any size. I chose a 40x40 close to the park.

Add the following to the lot:

a single tree

a 7x7 garden fence with a gate to keep out the zombies

(allows for 24 plants, one per square, with a border and sprinkler)

the Sim Scouts' Classic Camper tent

the All-in-One Outhouse

the Portable Fire Pit

the Vertistation Bike Rack

the bicycle of your choice (I chose the NotstalgiCycle)

The goal is to have the bare minimum for camping and a bicycle for getting around.

Use a cheat to leave your Sim with only §50 to cover Monday's bills.

You are not allowed to have a job in town until your home is built.

You may earn simoleons by gardening, but you cannot expand the garden or have more than 24 plants. If you have 24 plants and want to upgrade one of them, you must pull up the old one and plant a new one in its place.

You may earn money by collecting metals, gems, insects, etc.

Metals may be mailed away to be smelted.

You may send gems to be cut to increase their value.

Insects can be donated to Science for simoleons.

Garden harvests must be sold to the grocer.

You may dumpster dive to collect items to sell or to furnish your home.

You may earn simoleons by painting, but you must buy the easel first.

You may earn simoleons by writing, but you can't buy a laptop until you have built your kitchen and have a place to put the computer.

You must have a minimum of §5,000 in order to start building. Your first build must be a single 5x5 room with one door and one window. This will be a kitchen, dining area, and bookshelf.

After that, you are not allowed to build anything else until you have enough to add a living room, bathroom, and one bedroom (§10,000 to §15,000).

The only exception to this is if your Sim starts a family. In this case, you may add a 5x5 nursery with a crib, a high chair (placed in the kitchen), a potty chair, and a single bed. You may add toys and other items if you wish. The parents must still sleep in the tent until their bedroom has been added.

Once you have a one-bedroom home, you may add on at any time to get your three bedrooms. The nursery is a separate room and doesn't count as a bedroom for this challenge.

Since I have my game set on a long lifespan, with 28 days per year, I used the Retuner mod to set pregnancies to 21 days. They will get the baby bump at 2.3 days and the full belly at 14 days. I'm not too fond of the pregnant waddle, so I have it set to 8.5 months (about 19.8 days). Labor is set to begin two hours before the end of the pregnancy.
